On the Prowl for the Perfect Airbrush Kit

Since February, I've been hunting down the best airbrush kit for personal and professional use and I've listed down the choices below:

1. Dinair -
Foundation Deluxe Kit, $199 in the US, but being sold locally for Php 11,000.

This kit is perfect for beginners/intermediate users and is quite compact at merely 2x3x4 inches in size. Dinair uses water-based make-up which according to many is more friendly to the skin, unlike silicone-based airbrush make-up. However, it leaves a matte finish compared to the dewy finish of silicone-based brands. This can be resolved if you want to achieve the dewy finish with the moist & dewy product they are including with every kit.

I was alsmost sure of buying this kit, given that it's been around for a couple of decades now. But now I am having mix emotions about it. According to some, you cannot use silicone-based make-up with this kit. This would be such a drawback should there be a need for me to switch between water-based and silicone-based make-up. I'd love to be able to have that choice available just in case I would need it.

I checked with the local distributor if I can use it with silicone-based make-up and they said yes, so long as  I clean it right after use. But I've read somewhere that it would void the warrany and would cause damage to the system. So I'm now kind of skeptical about it.

Dinair is locally distributed by Sugar and Jojo of Airbrush Make-Up Manila.

2. Temptu -
Temptu Pro Airbrush Intro Kit, sold locally for Php 33,600

It includes S-One Compressor, a starter pack including 1/4 oz. bottles of all 12 S/B Foundations, 7 S/B Blushes & Highlighters, 1 oz. Primer, 4oz. S/B Airbrush Cleaner, 1oz Airbrush Moisturizer, 1 Concealer Wheel,  101 DVD, Airbrush Cleaning Kit, and an SP-35 Airbrush.

Temptu is another known brand in the make-up industry and there system can use both water-based and silicone-based make-up, making it a bit more expensive than Dinair.

As much as I would want to purchase this kit, its local price is really pretty insane! The S-One compressor, priced at US$195 only is being sold for Php 14, 800 and the portable Temptu Air, priced at US335 is being sold for PHp 40,000++. Quite a mark-up really. I have yet to find a cheaper distrubutor and someone who can buy it for me from abroad before I can consider this as an option.

3. Sparmax Kit

The Sparmax system is the kit normally used with OCC Airbrush Make-up. Being dual action, in can also use both water-based make-up (OCC, Dinair, etc.) and silicone-based (Temptu).

The kit (compressor + airbrush gun) is being sold locally for Ph15,500. Quite reasonable, making me actually consider it more than Dinair, but I have yet to get enough information from actual users before I can be totally sold on this.

There are other cheaper brands available locally like the Glambox Airbrush System and AirtechPro but I feel they're more for personal than professional use. Or am I wrong???

Until now, I'm still quite undecided as to which airbrush kit to get. Any airbrush users out there willing to help me out decide? I would love to hear your experiences and recommendations...

My First Fashion Show: Style Origin- Fashion Beats @ Greenbelt

Thanks to RB Chanco, I was able to be among one of the make-up artists for last Saturday's, (Mar 26) Fashion Shows for Spring/Summer 2011 Collections at Greenbelt. Finally had the chance to experience the rush of having to do make-up one after another for over 6 hours straight! It's a good thing the required look was only the prime look in peach/pink shades...Haha...What was really fulfilling, well aside from having to do make-up for about a dozen people, both kids and adults, was I got to do it for topmodels such as Mia Ayesa and Ornussa Cadness....yay!

Forever 21 @ SM Makati Opens on April 8

Hey everyone! The long wait is almost over. I heard from the grapevine that VIP Opening is on April 7 but Forever 21 at SM Makati will be opening its doors to the public on April 8, 2011.

Wella Professionals: Hair Setting & Design Workshop

Last Mar 17-18, I was able to attend the Hair Setting & Design Workshop at Wella Professionals. I knew I had to learn how to do simple hair styles and even up do's which will come in handy whenever I do Hair & Make-Up Services.

They taught us how to section the hair, how to set the hair, how apply hair pins, hair nets, etc. And we got to do several hair-up styles on the training head, which was actually made of 90% human hair...Below are some shots I took from the 2-day class...

BACK AFTER 2 WEEKS

I'm so sorry I've been such an irresponsible blogger and failed to make any posts, scheduled or otherwise, in the last 2 weeks.

So what have I been up to?

1. Enrolled at the gym. Yes, I finally decided to do something about my weight. Ever since I stopped breastfeeding my baby, Joaquin, last July, I have been continuously putting on weight. I know I really don't eat that much, but it's actually my stagnant lifestyle which has slowed down my metabolism. It doesn't also help that I rarely perspire as I'm constantly inside an airconditioned office, room or building.

Anyway, I took the plunge and enrolled at Fitness First at The Fort Strip last March 2 which is just a stone's throw away from our office. During my initial assessment, I felt so bad to find out that my BMI classification have just crossed over from being overweight to obese 1. How sad. Now it explains why it's so difficult for me to find a nice fitting pair of pants or even top, or even why I'm always catching my breath during long walks or whenever a climb a series of steps. So I said to myself, it's time to say goodbye to my big fat tummy, arms, legs and ass. Haha.

I'm trying to go there at least 3x a week, but hopefully, I'll be able to go there 5x a week starting this week (crossing my fingers). Among all my visits, I particularly enjoyed the TRX suspension training sessions as it works out my entire body all in one go. It's a good thing that my personal trainor was also a certified TRX trainor, hence I don't need to pay extra for this service.

Anyway, I'll update you every once in a while on my progress with reducing and controlling my weight...Hopefully something good will come out of it as it requires commitment and also costs quite an amount of money, really.

2. Underwent Hair Setting and Design Workshop at Wella Professionals. Everytime I would get inquiries on Make-Up services, it almost always needs to be bundled up with hair styling. But I dunno anything about it, not even a thing or two about blow drying, ironing, curling, etc. So to be able to cater to more clients, I decided to equip myself with the proper training on this. I've asked around and found Wella Professionals. It was a 2-day training where they taught us the basics on blow drying, ironing, curling, hair sectioning, and hair setting. They even taught us how do to do several hair upstyles which is very common for bridal or formal events. I'm really glad I did this and I know feel more comfortable to offer a hair and makeup package to my potential clients.
